Milad vs Kevin

Looking for an extra challenge in addition to the training? Competitive minded? Then the interclub is undoubtedly something for you.

TTC Meerdaal Leuven has experienced steady growth over the years, reaching into the national divisions. In total we have 15 competition teams (both men and women) from super division to 5th provincial.

Interclub competition is organized by the VTTL. So you have to be a member of the VTTL to be able to participate. This is also required for most tournaments. See the membership fee page.

In the interclub matches are organized between two clubs: two teams of four players each compete against each other, where you play a match against every player from the other team. There are consequently 16 matches in total. Each match is played to three winning sets. Every win gets the team one point. Possible results for the encounter vary thus from 16-0 to 8-8. A draw in the encounter gets each team two points, a victory gets the team three points. To disencourage forfeit, the losing team also gets one point.

A complete season is played over 22 matchdays. So in the entire season, you will play 11 different clubs, home and away. At the end of the season, the highest ranked clubs get promoted to the next division, the lowest ranked clubs are demoted.

A system of classifications ensures that you play players of roughly your own level.

There are five provincial divisions. Above that, you have the so-called “Landelijke”,where you play in the entire Flemish region. Above that, you have the first, second and third national divisions, where you play anywhere in Belgium. For the absolute top players, there is the “Superleague”, where you will also meet international top players.

The so-called men’s competition is in fact a mixed competition: you may play both men, women and transgender. The women also have their own, separate competition (and corresponding classification). In this competition, teams consist of three players each. Besides the 9 individual matches, there is also a doubles game. This gives a total of 10 matches, allowing for an encounter result varying from 10-0 to 5-5

The competition takes place (almost) weekly from September until April on these days:

  • Friday evening: provincial men’s competition from 19:00 until 23:00
  • Saturday afternoon: National and Landelijke ladies, provincial men’s competition and youth competition (from 14h until 17h)
  • Saturday evening:National and Landelijke men’s competition from 19h until 23h).

Every other week you will play home or away.

Tournaments

Is the regular competition not enough for you? Do you want to play more? Then take part in a tournament. A tournament gives you the chance to meet different opponents or to play in different formulas than the regular competition. Tournaments are organized throughout the season, both by the federation (VTTL and KBTTB) and by clubs. If you want you can play a tournament every weekend.

On this page you will find an overview of the tournaments organized by the association, divided into categories.

Tournaments are usually organized by age (-12, -21 ..) or by classification (NG, E, …). You can participate if you have the appropriate classification or age. For some tournaments, you have to qualify, or be invited.

Each tournament has its own system to get to the winner. Most will start with a group phase, then followed by a knock-out phase.

Tournaments are organized at Provincial, Flemish or National level. The bigger the region, the more different players and playing styles you will encounter, but also the further you have to drive. National tournaments usually take place in Louvain-La-Neuve. (about 25 km from Leuven).

The tournaments below take place around the same period every year. The exact dates for this year can be found on this calendar.

For most tournaments you can register via Frenoy. The club can also arrange this for you.

Criterions

The Flemish youth criterion takes place in 4 phases and ends in a final in which the players with the most points compete against each other. You can register separately for each of the phases. The players are divided into groups by age, boys and girls separately.

The aim is to introduce our very young players to play matches against players of the same gender and age. The same target group as for the Flemish youth criterion -12: benjamins, preminiemen and first-year miniemen.

The provincial seniors criterion is open to all ages. The players are divided into groups per ranking series. Afterwards, there will be played with direct elimination. The participants who reach the podium are qualified for the Flemish Championship.

In this tournament, the veterans get the chance to play for a medal. The players are classified according to age. Participation is sufficient for qualification for the Belgian championship.

Are you not yet 18 and do you like to play a match? Then you can participate in the youth league three times per season. The players are listed from strong to less strong and divided into large groups, so that everyone can play a lot. If you are with the best two players of your group, you can play a higher group the next time. If you were not at your strongest, you play a group lower.

Championships

The first chance to pick up a medal for many beginners. The younger you participate, the greater the chance that you will come home with a medal. The players are classified by age group. The podium (places 1 to 4) qualifies for the Flemish championship. This is also one of the few tournaments where you can play doubles.

Divided into ranking series, everyone gets the chance to show that he or she is the best in the province. The four best players can compete with the rest of Flanders in the Flemish championship (with the exception of the NGs).

Take advantage of this tournament to earn medals with your doubles partner. The players are divided into ranking series according to the highest ranking of the pair. Players who reach the podium are allowed to go to the Belgian championship.

In this tournament, the veterans get the chance to play for a medal without the younger players getting in their way. The players are classified according to age. The friendly atmosphere does not prevent epic matches from being played. Participation is sufficient for qualification for the Belgian championship.

You can qualify for the Flemish Youth Championships via the provincial youth criterion. The first two of each age category (up to juniors) may participate in the youth tournament, which always takes place on the 11th of November.

In the Flemish Championships you get the chance to compete with players from the other provinces in your ranking series. Access to the championship is only possible via the podium of the provincial criterium or the provincial championship.

Did you finish in the top half at the Flemish championships? Then you can play against our comrades from across the language border. If you get here, you belong to the top of Belgium in your own series.
